Only once in a huge while we find such television shows , which teach you a lesson with no effort ,where the plots are not complex but they keep you mesmerized , Where you know in each episode the climax of the story is going to be good winning and evil losing the grounds , and even in few plots there won't be any antagonist at all, still the simple human feelings, and love and affection are so well depicted that you love it all. Malgudi, a perfect society, I sometimes used to believe that it really existed. When the world is full of mistrust , suspicion and competing for being more crafty and refined , small stories like these have inculcated the morals and simplicity in many and serials like Malgudi Days have shaped many younger minds.
R. K Narayan, the writer extraordinaire, puts a story so simply that I would even put him in the class of Prem chand and Tolstoy and Gorky. The icing on the cake was the title song/music - "Tana na na na na Tana na na na na" which is still a favourite of many of my generation .
I somehow feel myself very fortunate that I grew up in a time when television was really a source of education family entertainment(at least till I was in mid teens ) . I take pity on the kids who are growing up with cable and cartoon network and are missing up the real lessons of life .

Necessity of all inventions
You can throw several reasons, varying from - human instinct to need for comfort, adaptation to survival of fittest, inquisitive mind to unrelenting insight, curiosity to desperate need of the moment. You can even ascribe it to the medieval revolutions and the tortures by churches, blame industrialization , may even have misgivings to Alfred noble for setting up the lucrative noble prize. I buy all your arguments you have a point. But here I dare to put forth the same theory yet another time, that the necessity for all inventions is woman! Believe it or not , reasons behind nine out of ten inventions can easily be traced to women! From the prehistoric times to this jet era women have been the reasons in one way or other. Had there not been Sita's tantrum to get the golden deer would Hanuman have ever invented the art of flying ? Had it not been Kunti would Sanjay have given the concept of television ? Okay , enough ; Let's look beyond India. Had it not been Mary Magdalne would there have been Monalisa(and of course Da Vinci !) ? Ok let's not not talk history ( it's always full of discombobulating mystical tales and confused mess that even a fool can prove his point !)
Do you think man was utterly stupid to go on a discovery stride to find new forests and deserts just to add more bucks(in those periods coins ) to his bank accounts(in those days his under earth treasury of gold!) putting his invaluable life at stake? Motivation, Compulsion - gold, may be yes, but did he ever use the gold for himself ? Had there been no women, the currency printed for the first time would have been sufficient for all our needs! Man would have been content with invention of iron and copper, and all the wars for gold and sinews of wars would have been only limited to fiction novels ! For all those who hold the notion that money is the ultimate impetus it should now come with no surprise that there are other stimuli driving instincts of mercenary desires.
Had Eve not eaten the fruit from the knowledge tree, had she not persuaded Adam to eat it as well and had Pandora not opened the box, there wouldn't have been any knowledge , nor there would have been any problems, and NO inventions would have taken place on this planet Earth!
